We rented bicycles this morning and rode the bike path along the lake to Torbole. It rained on and off but we felt happy and free and wondered when the pathway for bicyclists that will circumnavigate the lake in its entirety will be finished. Hopefully in our lifetime, haha!
We have a simple lunch afterwards at a beautiful small hotel and sit outside under a wide umbrella shielded from the intermittent rain. Then off to the amazing supermarket, where we find Adriatic clams, fresh parsley, prawns and citrus for dinner at our flat later in the evening. But first, a trip up the funicular for our aperitivo; mine a smoked Negroni, Bill ordered a Negroni normale. The ride up and view was spectacular, but Bill has vertigo, so we sit a few tables back from the edge.
The castle we see from town is right before us and I FaceTime my mom to bring her close to the experience.
Afterwards we make our way home and sauté the chanterelles from the market the other day in butter with shallots and thyme and cook the spaghetti with the sweet tiny and briny clams. Yes, we will do quite well here, at the top of this gorgeous lake at the base of the Alto Adige merely two hours from Venezia. It is due to rain the next few days but we will return in the spring to affirm that this is where we should be…
